title: Press digit node description: Navigate a phone menu at a fixed step of a flow: the LLM picks the digits from your instruction and the conversation, then the node presses them. order: 11#
The Press Digit node (type: "press_digit") presses keypad digits when the flow reaches it. Use it in outbound flows that call businesses with phone menus.
Configure#
- Add a Press Digit node.
- Write the Instruction. New nodes start with the prompt "Navigate the phone menu to reach a human."
- Add transitions for what comes next, for example a prompt transition "A person answered" and another "The menu asks for an account number".
How it runs#
- One LLM call reads the conversation (including the menu prompts the agent has heard) and your instruction, and returns a
digitstring. - Characters other than
0-9,*and#are dropped. - If
delay_msis set, the node waits that long. - The digits are sent as DTMF.
- Transitions are evaluated: equations, then prompt transitions and global nodes (separate LLM call), then stay.
Staying in the node means the agent replies with the node's instruction on the next turn; the press digit step itself runs again only when the flow enters the node again. For multi-level menus, chain one press digit node per level.

}Node vs function#
The Press Digit function lets the LLM press digits whenever it hears a menu during a normal conversation, with a default 1,000 ms delay. The node presses once, at a fixed step, with no default delay.
