Answer rates on outbound calls depend on what the callee's phone shows and whether carriers label the number as spam. This page covers caller ID on outbound calls, the trust information Tried reads from inbound calls, and the caller trust requests you can make for a number.
Outbound caller ID#
The caller ID on an outbound call is always the from_number of the call: the number the call is placed from. To show a different number, place the call from that number. It must be a number in your workspace (bought or imported).
On transfers, the agent's transfer settings decide whether the person receiving the transfer sees the caller's number or your number (show_transferee_as_caller on a sip_invite transfer).
Inbound caller trust#
When the carrier provides them, each inbound call records:
| Field | Source |
|---|---|
stir_shaken_attestation |
A, B or C, from P-Attestation-Indicator (sent by Telnyx and Twilio) or from the attest claim of the Identity PASSporT |
caller_cnam |
The caller's name, from X-Telnyx-CNAM, X-CNAM, or the display name in P-Asserted-Identity |
Both are null when the carrier sends nothing. Use them in your inbound webhook logic or analysis, for example to treat unsigned calls with more care.
Branded caller ID and verified numbers#
Each number's page has a Caller trust section with two cards.
Real requests need Telnyx (TELNYX_API_KEY and TELNYX_ENTERPRISE_ID). In mock mode the request is created as pending and approved the first time you check its status.
Branded caller ID#
Shows your business name and call reason on supported handsets. Enter a display name (for example Harbourside Dental, up to 32 characters) and an optional call reason, then click Request branded caller ID.
curl -X POST https://api.tried.com.au/create-branded-caller-id \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $TRIED_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"phone_number": "+61255501234",
"display_name": "Harbourside Dental",
"call_reason": "Appointment reminder"
}'| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
phone_number |
string | A number in your workspace. |
display_name |
string, 1 to 32 chars | Name to display. |
call_reason |
string, up to 60 chars | Optional reason shown with the name. |
logo_url |
URL | Optional logo. |
The response adds branded_caller_id, status, provider (mock or telnyx), provider_reference and timestamps.
Verified number#
Registers the number with carriers to reduce spam labels on outbound calls. Enter the registered business name and a contact email, then click Request verification.
| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
phone_number |
string | A number in your workspace. |
business_name |
string | Registered business name. |
contact_email |
Optional. | |
use_case |
string | Optional. |
The response adds verified_number_id, status, provider, provider_reference, spam_likely and timestamps. The card shows Spam likely or Clean once spam_likely is known.
Status#
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
pending |
Submitted, not approved yet |
approved |
Approved by the carrier |
rejected |
Refused; for branded caller ID, also set when the carrier rates the number's spam risk as high |
Click the refresh icon on a request to check its status (POST /refresh-branded-caller-id/:id, POST /refresh-verified-number/:id). The bin icon deletes it. Lists: GET /list-branded-caller-ids, GET /list-verified-numbers.
With Telnyx, both requests enrol the number in Telnyx Number Reputation and read its spam risk on refresh. The carrier display name itself is completed in the Telnyx portal.
Numbers flagged as spam#
If a carrier rejects an outbound call with SIP 608, the call ends with disconnection_reason: "marked_as_spam" and the number gets spam_flagged: true. Check the number's verification, slow down its calls per second, or move the campaign to another number.
Business profile (KYC)#
With TRIED_KYC_REQUIRED=1 on the API (optionally only for workspaces created after TRIED_KYC_SINCE), outbound calls, SMS and number purchases return 403 until the workspace's business profile is approved. Submit it on the Billing page (Business verification) or with POST /kyc. Mock providers approve at once; real review is a manual back-office step.
Carrier registration steps#
These are carrier registrations, not application settings. Deployment step
- STIR/SHAKEN A-attestation on outbound calls is applied by the originating carrier for numbers you own on that carrier. Buy or port numbers to Telnyx or Twilio and dial through their trunks. For your own numbers on other carriers, register them with that carrier (Letter of Authorization) so it signs with A.
- Outbound CNAM: register the display name per number with the carrier (Telnyx CNAM listing, Twilio CNAM through Trust Hub).
- AU sender IDs for SMS. See SMS.
