test is a minimal signed event you trigger yourself to check that your endpoint is reachable and that your signature check works.
When it fires#
- You press Test on Settings, Webhooks.
- You call
POST /workspace/test-webhook.
It is never sent automatically. See Test webhooks for both methods.
Which settings enable it#
None. It goes to the url you pass, or to the workspace webhook URL. Agent event filters do not apply.
Payload#
{
"event": "test",
"timestamp": 1760672019481
}| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
event |
string | Always test |
timestamp |
integer | When the test was sent, Unix milliseconds |
The request carries the same x-tried-signature and x-retell-signature headers as every other event. See Secure webhooks.
Delivery#
- Workspace timeout, else 10 s.
- Up to 3 retries with 1, 2 and 4 second waits.
- Logged in the delivery log with
call_idnull.
How to respond#
Reply with any 2xx. Treat test as a no-op in your handler so it never writes data:
switch (payload.event) {
case "test":
return res.sendStatus(204);
case "call_ended":
// ...
}The dashboard's agent level Test button sends a different, unsigned body from your browser: {"event": "test", "call": {"call_id": "call_test", "agent_id": "<agent id>"}}. It has no signature headers and no log entry.
